Live Action Info
Actor: Jay Chou [Taiwanese singer]
General
Takumi is the main character of the movie. Like in the Anime, he drives a hachi roku and has been delivering tofu for 5 years. The driving age in Japan is 18, so he has actually be driving illegally for 5 years. Since it was at 4AM, no one noticed.
Personality
Takumi is quiet and shy, especially when it comes to love. He is often seen in a daze, thinking about his girlfriend, Mogi. When angry, he's not afraid to start a fight.
Friends and Family
His best friend is Itsuki, the son of the owner of the gas station he works at. He later becomes friends with Ryosuke of the RedSuns. As mentioned, he has a girlfriend who he thinks about and cares for very much. His father is Bunta. When Bunta's wife left him, he began drinking. Takumi often has to carry his drunken body into bed. Sometimes Bunta is abusive when he's drunk, and Takumi's body is covered in bruises and scars.
Racing
Takumi doesn't know much about cars but is interested in learning. The car he uses belongs to his father and is a white AE86. Because of delivering tofu, he knows Akina very well, being able to drive it up and down (including delivery) in half an hour. It took him about 2 years to be able to do it that quickly. His trick on Akina is to use the ditch on the side of the roads. He drops his inner tires in, allowing him to take the inside at a fast speed.
Differences from the Anime
- Although Takumi thinks about Mogi often, he is never seen in a daze as in the movie. Actually, towards the end of First Stage, the humor was that his friends thought he was lovesick over a girl. In reality, he was thinking about his future after his race with Ryosuke.
- In the movie, Takumi and Ryosuke seem very "buddy-buddy". Although they are friends later in the series, Takumi does not look at Ryosuke as an equal as he seems to do in the movie. Rather, he looks up to Ryosuke and is always trying to meet up to his expectations.
- In the Anime, Bunta is never shown as being drunk and abusive. Takumi actually doesn't have bruises and scars on his body.
- From the movie, it sounds like it took Takumi 2 years to master Mt. Akina. In the Anime, it only takes him 1 year.
